Recently we lost another pastor to Eastern Orthodoxy. What's up with that?
Anyway, I posted this on his blog and by popular demand, now I am posting it here for the amusment, enjoyment and pondering of all my fan out there (yes I know I said fan - singular).
RR
John,
Well, I am a little sad, but honestly, for years, I thought that you were not a good fit for the LC-MS in its current incarnation - then again, I am not either, but for other reasons - (mostly dealing with SPs, DPs, guns, midgets and other amusements, but I digress).
I thought that you would have gone the way of Rome, so I am a bit surprised. I know that these decisions are hard. When I first became a Lutheran, my family insisted that I joined a cult too.
I just want to say that I hope you enjoy your trip out East and when you discover that no matter how truly jacked up the LC-MS is (and OH YES WE ARE), it is still the best game in town. I for one will be happy to welcome you back with open arms and rejoice in the ridiculous fellowship of a ridiculous church, but even more, the ridiculously good news of Justification by grace through faith ALONE apart from theosis.
I know you have no intentions of coming back, so my brother, rush head long into that abyss and when you wake up next to a pig, just remember this - the pigs in the LC-MS are cleaner - myself included for we are pieces of dung covered by snow over on this side of the fence. When you come back, we will kill the fatted DP and rejoice.
Enjoy your self imposed exile, we will miss you. Check in with us every now and again, we will leave a light on for you.
In the completely sufficient imputation of righteousness that is extended from the Cross of Christ
XOXO

Hey Ranter,
Nice to see that someone left him a goodbye that wasn't all tears and sadness. Waah! Waah! Waah!
This journey sounds like something that should have been taken long ago. (Then perhaps he could have repented of it by now!)
But his example should be followed by others in our midst who secretly think some other communion does it all better. Too many stay in, lowering morale, and worse yet, making themselves the arbiter of the real truth. They don't want to hold the line in our church, nor will they put themselves under the authority of the church they say is better. "But if I went there I would have no guarantee of my wonderful position!" On that score, I think Fenton did demonstrates great bravery.
Time to write anew Rant...
R.R.,
I know exactly how you feel (more so)...for I am (embarassed to admit it) in the ELCA.
It sure smells in here, but at last I know where it's coming from.
In Rome and the East the stench is so thick you can't see through your teary eyes.
I wish your friend well, I hope he is not afraid of heights. Those laddes of worthiness can be quite unstable.
Nice blog site! I'll be back for more!
